Search engine optimization is one of the many keys to a top performing site. However, more than that goes into building a website. One thing that you don’t get complete control over when you use one of the many free WordPress themes is the aesthetics. Or, how the site looks–and really–how it performs as well. I don’t want to slander any themes. Because I do feel as though I picked the best free one out there. Or, at least it was the best one that I saw.
I’m not going to name it. But, what I will say, is that they made it very difficult for me to customize, to the point that they claimed I could not customize it because of copyright laws. Huh? Isn’t this my website? Don’t I own it? I pay the monthly mortgage on it, not them. So, why couldn’t I customize my weblog?
Because I didn’t pay them anything for their theme.
They accept donations. But, I wasn’t about to donate my hard earned cash to someone who didn’t offer what I needed. I moved on. So now, you will see limited posts over the next week or so as I continue to upgrade the site’s functionality and beauty. In addition, I have to upgrade the other sites as well. So, it will be a ghost town around here for a bit.
I do have one regret about this. I regret not making this upgrade sooner. Because I am now running into the problems of search queries leading people to my unfinished site. Who wants to follow a site that needs work?
Anyway, that is where I’m at. I’m not going to be promoting this site, nor working on it other than getting it fully optimized and running beautifully. Once that is finished, consider me back to posting regularly.
Thanks for your patience!
