You’ve got your website set up. It is set to help you build your business and sales. Good job. But, you obviously don’t think that having a website is enough. This is why you have a Facebook account.
You’ve heard that the key to promoting your business is social networking. You know, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Google + and the list goes on.
But is it enough?
In a word, no. It is far from enough to build an online presence. The truth is, social networking, or social marketing is only one aspect in a much bigger picture. The big picture is known as content marketing.
Having said that, social marketing is important to promoting your company. How you do it though, is what is most important.
Most people just make a Facebook page for their business and ask for people that they are already friends with to “like” their page. This is a good idea. But you have to go a few steps further than that. But, this is going beyond our scope here.
My point with this post isn’t about how to do social marketing the right way, it is that you need to go big, or go home. You can’t just think social media is enough to grow your online presence. It’s not.
The key is that social media is one of the smallest parts of your overall marketing ploy. Did you catch that? It is important, but not the most important.
The biggest part of your marketing strategy is giving stuff away for free. Well, not stuff … but information. What can you show your customers, that they don’t already know. Or, how can you re-package it, so that it will impact them differently?
Here’s a hint, everything you do can be beneficial to someone. What I mean, is that no matter what business you’re in, people need to know more about it. Unless, of course, what you do doesn’t help people out, in any way.
My main point with all of this is simple. Social media is great. But it is just one of the many aspects of an overall quality content marketing strategy. The best way to look at whether or not something is beneficial is simple: Can your company stand without it? Let’s apply this question to social media.
Q: Will my company survive without social media?
A: Yes it will survive. Though, you are better off to have it.
Q: Will my company survive without marketing it?
A: No, it won’t. If you don’t promote yourself, people lose focus of you, and forget you exist. You have to stay on the forefront of your customer’s minds. Luckily for you, social media is just one aspect of a content marketing platform.
